Italy Sends 2,500 to Lebanon

Italy has send Tuesday 2,500 troops to join the international force in Lebanon. The five naval vessels should reach their final destination on September 1. Italy's contingent will be the largest in the UN force, which was deployed to Lebanon amid a devastating conflict with Israel. Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi and Defence Minister Arturo Parisi spoke to the troops before they sailed away. "It is a delicate mission, of enormous historical importance," Prodi was cited as saying.
