Hunter Shoots Man Instead of Jackal in Bulgaria

Crime | August 25, 2006, Friday // 00:00

A Bulgarian hunter shot a man from his own village by mistake, thinking he was a jackal.

The shooter had gone out for a nighttime hunt, hoping to catch some jackals near the central village of Karavelovo, according to Darik News. His flashlight went off around ten in the evening and he saw movement in his neighbour's yard.

Thinking it was a beast of some kind, the hunter shot at the moving figure, only to realize that he had just hit his neighbour, who was out watering the mown.

Luckily the 62-year-old man was only shot in the leg, so he was taken to the hospital without any danger to his life.

Police have started an investigation.
