Strike-Seized Barcelona Airport Back to Normal

World | July 29, 2006, Saturday // 00:00

After a day of strike that immobilized Barcelona's El Prat Airport, the situation is back to normal reports say. Some 2,000 ground employees of Iberia had blocked one of three runways at Spain's second busiest airport on Friday, causing many delays and cancellations including some of Bulgaria Air flights. Now the workers have cleared the runway, allowing the 7,000 stranded passengers to finally get to their destinations. Still, many companies are not willing to risk it and Bulgaria's national flag carrier redirected its Barcelona flight to Madrid on Saturday. Some air carriers have vowed to sue Iberia for the losses they've suffered during the strike. Iberia employees are protesting the airline's loss of the license to operate handling operations at the airport, which would bring to a major downsizing.
