International rapid forces must be quickly despatched to Lebanon, US President George Bush said after talks in Washington with UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. The two have agreed that an international force would augment the Lebanese army, and assist with the distribution of humanitarian aid. According to the US President, the two countries' goal was to achieve a "lasting peace" in the region. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would be returning to the region on Saturday, he also announced. The leaders' meeting comes amid growing pressure on the US and UK to join calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The UN Security Council would meet next week to discuss the issue, Bush added.
