Bulgaria will have to close two slaughterhouses in the northern city of Montana, as they do not answer to EU requirements, reports say.

Experts from the National Veterinary Medical Service have checked a total of 15 such facilities and finally recommended the closure of two large meat producers. Another abattoir has had its range of products shrunk.

The rest of the facilities will receive class 1 certificates. The final list of slaughterhouses that answer to all EU requirements will be published August 25.

The two closed facilities processed poultry.
