Israeli Jets Hit Lebanese Cities

Israeli warplanes have bombed sites in the port of Sidon, the capital Beirut, as well as the Baalbek area, which are suspected to house Hezbollah militants.

The air strikes come a day after Israel said it had taken the village of Maroun al-Ras, said to be a Hezbollah rocket base, after days of heavy fighting.

Three European envoys are scheduled to hold talks with Israel on Sunday, ahead of a visit by the US Secretary of State.

Israeli officials are scheduled to meet German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier , French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy and UK Foreign Office Minister Kim Howells.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is travelling to the Middle East on Sunday.
