France's captain Zinedine Zidane was surprisingly named best player of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Apparently Zidane's disrespect for the rules of fair play went unnoticed by FIFA and he grabbed the Golden Ball, thus adding a twist to the end of his career.
Although it seemed that the red card in the 110th minute of the World Cup final against Italy has placed the full stop of the French player's career, journalists rewrote the ending of Zidane's professional biography.
Zidane gathered 2012 points by journalists covering the tournament, and came on top of Italians Fabio Cannavaro (1977 points) and Andrea Pirlo (715).
Minutes before the end of the overtime between Italy and France, Zidane charged at Italy's defender Marco Materazzi, headbutting him in the chest, after Materazzi said something to him.
