The development of the bilateral political and economic relations between Bulgaria and China follows an upward trend and has the potential to move to a completely new level.

This emerged from a meeting of Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev and a Chinese governmental delegation. Prime Minister Stanishev acquainted the guests in detail with the investment conditions in the country, highlighting the macroeconomic, financial and political stability in Bulgaria.

Chinese investors are welcome to the country, Stanishev said. He pointed out that better balance for the bilateral commercial relations should be found and the cooperation between Chinese and Bulgarian business through the establishment of joint ventures and encouragement of the Bulgarian export to China is of key significance.

The trade volume between the two countries amounts to over USD 700 M.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister said that there is great potential in high technology, science and education. He informed the Chinese guests that Bulgaria has excellent experts in ICT, the pharmaceutical industry and energy.

The Chinese officials in their turn expressed their satisfaction with Bulgaria's macroeconomic stability and the favourable conditions for investment. The Chinese government pursues a policy of encouraging Bulgarian import.

The talks focused on the opportunities for the country's promotion as an attractive tourist destination for Chinese tourists. According to Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, the tourist exchange between the two countries can significantly increase.
