Bulgaria's CableNet Ltd, which will be providing services under the brand name of Max Telecom, became a member of the International WiMAX Forum, the company announced.
WiMAX Forum is an industry-led, non-profit corporation formed to promote and certify compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products. The organization focuses on facilitating the deployment of broadband wireless networks based on the IEEE 802.16 standard.
Some of the Forum's members include AT&T, British Telecom, Intel Corporation, Motorola, Samsung and many other leading telecommunications companies.
"We are proud to have answered to the high standards and requirements for membership in that leading organization," Krassimir Stoychev, CEO of Max Telecom has said. "As a member of the Forum we will receive immediate access to the newest tendencies in the sector, that we plan to develop in Bulgaria by the end of 2006," he added.
In the end of 2005 the company was issued the "A" class bandwidth that would allow it to roll out a nationwide network, with frequency repeat undertaken to provide contiguous coverage, and handovers between base stations in the same way as GSM networks once the 802.16e standard appears towards the end of 2006.
