Bulgaria Locks Up Minors at Night

Politics | April 26, 2006, Wednesday // 00:00

Bulgarian children and teens under 16 were banned from stepping out at night without adult company.

Wednesday's law changes oblige parents to keep the youngsters at home after 10 p.m.

They can get out only if a person of legal age is watching over, Parliament members decided.

Parents who fail to meet the fresh requirement will be sanctioned.

At present, going out at night remains a popular practice among young Bulgarians, even if they are not allowed into nightclubs.

Now owners of public venues will even face fines of up to EUR 1,000 if they allow minors without adult supervision in from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
