Levels of the Danube River are slowly dropping to the relief of thousands of Bulgarians who have spent the past couple of weeks in fear of the upcoming waters.

Even though their yards and ground floors have been flooded for days, many people were relived to find that Easter has brought about a minute drop in the river's record-high levels.

Drinking water in the worst-hit town of Nikopol has been tested and is still good, media reported.

Most of the towns where Danube's levels had reached critical heights, are now witnessing a stabilized river, with no increase over the past day.

The raising waters of the Danube brought about many of the fears and questions of the summer of 2005, when two million Bulgarians suffered the aftermath of severe floods all over the country.
