Eleven Dutch flower-growing companies overtook Bulgaria's Kazanlak - the central town of the country's region best known for its marvelous Rose Valley.
During the first-ever "Dutch Flower Days" in Kazanlak over 5,000 Bulgarians rushed to buy bouquets that came straight from the Netherlands. Merchants were more than happy with flowers for over EUR 5,000 sold in just two days. Customers, on the other hand, were amazed to see the bouquet-arranging techniques of some renowned artists in the area.
Bulgarian and Dutch businessmen are planning to create the Balkan country's first flower bourse. They are thinking about building glasshouses in the Rose Valley and opening many new work opportunities, Kazanlak mayor Stefan Damyanov said.
