Too many robberies took place in Bulgarian museums for a really short period of time, Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev said, underlining that control measures will be tightened.

His comments came after he ordered a check into private collections of Bulgarian artifacts. The check was initiated after Veliko Tarnovo Museum was robbed of artifacts worth BGN 5 M.

The protection and the preservation of the historical funds will be among the main priorities of the check.

Boris Velchev pointed out that he is a collector, "addicted to numismatics." His collection includes 40-50 precious coins, mainly Thracian and Greek coins, worth BGN 100-130 each. The top prosecutor underlined that most of the coins he purchased in the clubs of the Bulgarian numismatic union.

He explained that after Plovdiv numismatists stated that Bulgaria's chief prosecutor is one of the most active collectors in the state.
