Most of the people in Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia do not believe that their countries' entry into the European Union (EU) would curb corruption, DPA reported citing a survey presented Monday.

A total of 54% of the Bulgarians say that corruption would not declined over the first five years after their country joins the bloc.

In Romania the number of these people are 57% and in Croatia - 66%. Most of the people who participated in the survey in the three countries claim that corruption has blossomed after the fall of communism. In Romania 84% support that thesis, in Bulgaria - 74% and in Croatia - 72%.

Nearly 90% of the questioned in the three countries believe that prices would go up after the entry. Still, 61% of the Bulgarians, 67% of the Romanians and 41% of the Croats believe that the price boom would take place simultaneously will their salaries increase.

The survey was executed in the autumn of 2005 from the Austrian Paul F. Lazarsfeld Center for the Social Sciences.
