2 More Swans Test Bird-Flu Positive in Bulgaria

Politics | February 9, 2006, Thursday // 00:00

Two more dead swans have been tested positive for the H5 bird-flu strain in Bulgaria, Health Minister Radoslav Gaydarski and Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil have said Thursday.

One of the birds was discovered in the Shabla Lake, and the other in the Dylgopol dam, both in the Varna region near the seaside.

Bulgaria will send samples from the two fowls to a London lab on Monday.

Police already restricted the traffic around the Shabla Lake in the end of January, after about 130 coots were found dead in the region. Those birds, however, were not infected with bird flu, according to tests.
