Muslims Attack Dutch Embassy in Jakarta
World | February 3, 2006, FridaySome 300 Muslims attacked the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta in a protest over cartoons that Muslims say insult Islam and the Prophet Mohammad. The violent people stormed the lobby of a Jakarta building housing the Danish embassy. The protesters from the hardline Islamic Defender's Front (FPI) smashed lamps and threw chairs around. They also threw rotten eggs and tomatoes at the Danish embassy symbol and tore up a Danish national flag. The protest was among the first in the world's largest Muslim nation, directed at a series of 12 caricatures of Mohammad, commissioned last September by a Danish newspaper, that depict the prophet of Islam as a terrorist.
