Bird Flu Mutates, Transfers to Mammals

Politics | November 28, 2005, Monday // 00:00

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the avian flu virus is mutating and is already transferring to mammals.

So far there have only been a few cases of human-to-human transfers of the virus, but they had happened in bird farms.

China has announced that for 20 days specialists have been testing an anti-bird flu shot. However it would be at least two years before an effective bird flu prevention vaccine appears on the market.

A total of 132 people have been infected with avian flu worldwide and 60 of them have already passed away.
