Greece ratified the EU accession treaty of Bulgaria and Romania at a ceremony attended by the presidents of the two EU aspirants.

Greece invited in October the Presidents of Bulgaria and Romania to attend the solemn plenary session of the Greek Parliament when the two countries' EU Accession Treaty will be ratified.

This was the first invitation of the kind extended to Bulgaria's Georgi Parvanov and Romania's Traian Basesku by an EU Member state. All 25 countries of the bloc are to ratify the key document so that it enters into force.

Six EU member states are expected to ratify Bulgaria's EU Treaty of Accession by the end of the year.

Besides Greece, the parliaments of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark and the Czech Republic are expected to ratify the document.
