Bulgarian experts have checked 107 sites on Monday as a bird flu precaution.

They have inspected 89 farms and 18 bird markets, the Health Ministry reported.

Experts are also continuing their watch on rivers and lakes, where dead birds could possibly be found.

Bulgaria is sandwiched between Romania and Turkey, two countries that were recently hit by the avian flu virus.

Sofia was widely seen as the next possible spot of the outbreak, but so far scientists have found no trace of the virus.
