A Bulgarian national, deputy captain at the Israeli container ship Zim Asia, has been arrested at the port of the town of Haifa, according to reports.

The Israeli container ship is suspected of colliding with a Japanese fishing boat off the coast of Japan four weeks ago and causing the deaths of seven Japanese fishermen.

Haaretz daily reports that the crew members, three of whom are Israeli and two European, are suspected of causing death by negligence for allegedly failing to assist the fishermen.

The investigation team has already submitted some of its findings to the Haifa District Prosecution, which has ordered a criminal investigation into the maritime crash.
