Bulgarian Road Police Oppose Flamboyant Billboards

A special check into the advertising billboards in the capital has been ordered by Sofia's acting mayor. The check was ordered after the Road Police complained that the flamboyant billboards distract drivers and result in car accidents. At present there are 750 billboards of private firms and over 100 of municipal companies in Sofia.The acting mayor Velizar Stoilov pledged to remove all billboards that violate the new rules for installing billboards and movable advertisement facilities approved by Sofia City Council. All illegal advertisements will be removed from the capital's streets under the new regulations. The legal ones, which do not comply with the new rules, will have to be modified to correspond to the standards. Advertisement around public transportation stations will be limited.
