Nera Networks, the Norwegian leading company in wireless telecommunications using microwave and satellite technology, introduced the unique WiMAX wireless technology to Bulgaria on Wednesday.
The new equipment was demonstrated for the first time in Bulgaria at a workshop that gathered experts from the telecommunication field.
The workshop was held on account of the upcoming auction for licensing 3.5 GHz, wireless, point-to-multipoint networks.
The license will allow operators to unfold their infrastructure by providing wireless high-speed quality data, voice, video, and multimedia services based on WiMAX. WiMAX is a standard wireless technology providing broadband connection for large distances, ensuring compatibility among different brands of equipment.
WiMAX can be used for a number of applications, such as "last mile" broadband connections, hotspots and cellular backhaul, and high-speed connectivity for businesses.
Nera Networks solutions and WiMAX products have already been successfully implemented on a big scale in several European countries where licenses have already been granted like the UK, Italy, Denmark, Norway and Poland.
Based in Norway, Nera Transmission specializes in design, development, manufacture, sales, installation and operation of Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint wireless equipment, for mobile, high-capacity-long-haul and fixed wireless access applications.
