New Inhabitant Joins Belitsa Bear Reserve

A new inhabitant has joined the rest of the bears at the Belitsa reserve.

The bear Vela joined the other inhabitants in Belitsa after representatives form the organization "Four paws" reached an agreement with Vela's owner.

The animals in Belitsa have been given shelter in the Belitsa mountain park, after an unenviable "career" as street dancers. The bears were forced by their owners to dance and amuse tourists. But last year animal rights activists bought freedom for 13 of the unlucky dancers.

Vela proved to be the biggest female bear in Belitsa with weight of 168 kg. The bear has been initially trained at a circus but after her circus career ended Vela took a career of a "dancing bear." Vela is known for passion for liquor, her former owner said that she could consume up to 20 bottles of beer and five glasses vodka. Now, Vela will have to give up on her harmful habit, experts from the Four paws organizations comment.

There are a total of five "dancing bears" in Bulgaria that are still working, but the Four paws organization announced that it is working for the bears' release.
