PM: EU's Yellow Flag to Bulgaria Is Myth
Politics | June 4, 2005, SaturdayThe EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn has not sent warning letters to Bulgaria yet, the Premier said during his visit to the town of Elena.
It is not unusual the European Union to monitor Bulgaria in its pre-accession process, Saxe-Coburg said.
On Thursday Olli Rehn stated that there is no strong link between the ratification of the EU Constitution and the enlargement process, but that Europe is confronted however with an enlargement fatigue.
He said that Romania and Bulgaria would receive respectively seven and five early warning letters underlying the urgent reforms to be done. These letters are a standard procedure of the EU monitoring and they are going to reach Bucharest and Sofia before the 16 June, Olli Rehn pointed out.
The Commissioner tried to reassure the acceding and the candidate countries by saying that a clear commitment of the EU leaders towards enlargement should be mentioned in the EU Summit conclusions, due on June 16-17.
