Romanian Parliament, including the lower and upper chambers, ratified Tuesday the EU Accession Treaty the country signed, alongside Bulgaria, on April 25 in Luxembourg. A total of 434 votes out of all attending 468 MPs and senators supported the historic accord, under which Sofia and Bucharest are scheduled to enter the European Union in January 2007. Romania is the second country to give its ratification vote after Bulgarian lawmakers ratified the key accord with overwhelming majority on May 11. The EU Accession Treaty of Bulgaria and Romania must be ratified also by all EU Member states to enter into force.
