Bulgaria's Furniture Heads for EU Markets

The quantity of furniture produced in Bulgaria has risen by 20% in 2004, according to information from Bulgaria's Branch chamber of furniture manufacturers.

The export of Bulgarian furniture to the EU countries has jumped by 22% in the last year, the experts said.

In 2004 the furniture industry's share has grown to 4.5% of the country's GDP, while in 2001 it has been 1.5% from the GDP.

A total of seven Bulgarian furniture companies have participated in this year International Furniture Expo in Koeln, Germany. For the first time two Bulgarian companies have sealed contracts to the value of EUR 300,000.

It is expected more contracts for another EUR 2.7 M to be signed this year.
