Bulgarian parliamentary delegation, lead by Parliamentary Speaker Ognyan Gerdzhikov arrived Saturday in Sri Lanka to deliver the second part of humanitarian aid to the tsunami-wrecked country.
Tents, blankets, disinfectants and medicines, given by the Bulgarian Red Cross and the Military Medical Academy, were handed over to the local authorities at Colombo airport.
Gitanjana Gunawardena, Deputy-Speaker at the Parliament of Sri Lanka, personally thanked the Bulgarian delegation for the relief aid.
A large number of countries from all over the world, UN Agencies, International Organisations and International NGOs continue to provide or pledge disaster relief and monetary assistance, Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry said.
The death toll in Sri Lanka is near 50,000, and about 900,000 are homeless.
The worldwide death toll is above 155,000, with the majority of them in Indonesia -- nearly 95,000, according to the country's health ministry. The figure could jump dramatically since the ministry reported Saturday that 77,000 are listed as missing.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan Saturday toured Sri Lanka, but reluctantly agreed to a Sri Lankan request not to visit disaster-stricken areas controlled by Tamil Tiger rebels.
