Arabs of Bulgarian Citizenship on Iraq's Terrorist List

Politics | December 1, 2004, Wednesday

Some dozen Arabs with Bulgarian citizenship have been detected among the active terrorist groups in Iraq, according to CIA quoted by Bulgarian TRUD daily.

However, Bulgaria's special services and military intelligence denied having such information.

The CIA claimed that one of those terrorists, dubbed D.M., had passed through Bulgaria last month.

The news appeared along with the information that an Iraqi married to a Bulgarian wife was killed by US marines in the fierce fighting in Fallujah.

The CIA office in Baghdad was reported saying that Arabs with permits of temporary or permanent stay in Bulgaria were engaged in the arms trade and the insurgency organization in Iraq.

Those Arabs, including Iraqi and other Islamic countries' nationals, had come to Bulgaria in the 90s of last century and some had even founded own businesses in the Balkan country. Many of them had left Bulgaria long time ago, but some still make use of their Bulgarian stay permits, the anonymous CIA sources were quoted stating.
