The first group of the Bulgarian unit to Iraq returned to Sofia safe and sound on November 28.

A total of 128 soldiers were flied back to Sofia from Iraq. They will all undergo special medical examinations, the Defense Ministry announced.

The first batch of Bulgarian peacekeeping troops has arrived in the southern Iraqi city of Diwaniyah, near Najaf, early Sunday morning to replace the country's third infantry unit.

In early November, Bulgaria started to transfer its troops in Iraq from the Shiite holy city of Karbala to Diwaniyah to fill the vacancy brought by Spanish troops' withdrawal. The whole transfer is scheduled to complete before mid-December.
