Bulgarian Media Stand by Romanian Reporter

Politics | November 19, 2004, Friday // 00:00

Bulgaria's Council of National Media has declared firm support for their colleague George Buhnici from Romania, who was arrested on Tuesday over charges of secretly videotaping Danube border facilities.

Bulgarian National Television (BNT), bTVm, Nova Television (NTV), Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), Darik Radio, and Bulgarian News Agency stood by Buhnici and his work as reporter with all means of securing information normally used all over the world.

Unlike Bulgarian law, local journalists admitted the use of hidden cameras as such means whenever there is no other way to collect information from public importance.

The incident with George Buhnici who after 72 hours spent in the Rouuse arrest was release on bail must not be misused as a factor to mar the friendly bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Romania, both on their path to enter the EU.
