Bulgaria has officially bid farewell to its fourth infantry unit to leave for Iraq by the end of the week.

The mission certifying ceremony held Wednesday in Karlovo saw a total of 462 highly professional troops, including 197 with mission experience abroad and 80 that had participated in the first Iraqi mission.

The troops will serve under the commandment of Lieutenant Colonel Dimitar Shivikov from Plovdiv.

The Army of Staff announced some changes in the structure and specialization of the unit with strengthened combat units on the account of logistic elements. The changes were made in reference to the new deployment of Bulgarian troops relocated from Karbala to Diwaniya.

The preparation of the troops was executed in the mechanized infantry brigade in the town of Karlovo, south Bulgaria, on September 6. The troops will see tighter security measures and better living conditions in the new Echo base in Diwaniya.

The new Echo base spreads on an area of 4 sq km. The Bulgarian soldiers will occupy four buildings in the base. There is a fitness center and other sports facilities for the soldiers.
