Sofia Denies Bulgarian Soldier Killed in Iraq

Sofia denied reports that a Bulgarian soldier was killed and another three were wounded in a gun attack reported between Iraq's town of Hilla and Karbala.

Earlier on Tuesday BBC Bulgarian section informed citing Arab channel Al-Sharqia that witnesses reported unknown gunmen attacked with mortars Bulgarian troops patrolling on a road south of Baghdad.

The spokesperson of Polish multinational division Centre-South Colonel Lieutenant Arthur Domanski decisively denied that any incident had occurred with Bulgarian infantry unit.

Currently the 480-strong contingent of Bulgaria is preparing for redeployment from the Karbala base of Kilo to Diwaniya's base of Eco, formerly used by Spanish troops. The official delegation, which left for Iraq over the weekend to inspect local conditions, was expected to return on Tuesday. A report on their visit is due within days.
