Poland will withdraw its troops from Iraq by the end of 2005 according to Poland's Defense Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski, AFP announced.

Poland sent 2,500 troops to Iraq last year in the wake of the US-led invasion and heads up a multinational division of 6,000 soldiers, including 500 Bulgarian troops based in the Iraqi province of Karbala.

The news comes a week after Sofia agreed to relocate its troops in Iraq from the southern city Karbala to the Qadissiya province by the end of December 2004.
