The level of terror threat in Norway has been raised from low to moderate, following attack threats purportedly made by Ayman al-Zawahri, deputy leader of the terrorist network al-Qaida. He asked for organized resistance against what he termed invading "crusaders" in the Muslim world, and included Norway among these. The taped speech aired by Qatar-based TV channel Al-Jazeera mentioned Australia, France, Japan, South Korea, Poland and Norway, saying they had all participated in occupying Afghanistan, Iraq or Chechnya.
