Bulgaria has slowed down with the implementation of political criteria en route to EU accession, European Affairs Minister Meglena Kuneva warned.

The administrative performance of institutions is still weak due to their bad coordination, the minister told Bulgarian National Radio on Thursday.

Bulgaria has harmonized about 90% of its legislation with the European acquis communautaire, but the local administration still lags behind with its full implementation, the minister pointed out.

In October EU hopefuls Bulgaria and Romania expect the regular reports of the European Commission with assessments of their performance in implementation of political and economic criteria en route to full membership.

Both Balkan countries are scheduled to join the Union on January 1, 2007.
