At least four people were killed in a car bomb that exploded outside the main US military base in Iraqi northeastern town of Baquba.

More than 10 others were also injured in the blast at the al-Faris base, 50 km north of Baghdad. The US military confirmed the blast at the gate of the base but could not give further details.

The attack was the latest in a string of assaults on US-led coalition forces. Militants have intensified their attacks on US forces and Iraqi police days ahead of the handover of sovereignty in Iraq on June 30.
