His Highness Royal Prince de Asturias, Don Felipe de Borbуn and Greece, third son of Their Majesties Kings of Spain Don Juan Carlos and Doсa Sofнa, was born in Madrid on the 30th of January, 1968.
He was baptized in memory of the names of Felipe, Juan, Pablo and Alfonso of All the Saints, respectively, of the first Borbуn that reigned in Spain, of the Head of the Spanish Real House, its paternal grandfathers, of the King of the Greeks, its maternal grandfathers and of the King of Spain and great-grandfather Don Alfonso XIII.
His godfather was the Count of Barcelona Don Juan de Borbуn and godmother was his great-grandmother Reina Doсa Victoria Eugenia.
Academic and Military Education
Crown Prince from the proclamation of his father like King on the 22 of November, 1975, received on the 1 of November, 1977, the title of Prince of Asturias, along with those of Prince of Girona and Prince of Viana, corresponding to the first-born of the Kingdoms of Castile, Aragуn and Navarre, whose union formed in century XVI the Spanish Monarchy. He shows, also, with the titles of Duke of Montblanc, Count of Cervera and Seсor of Balaguer.
On the 30 of January, 1986, being just eighteen years old, he swore before the General Cortes in fidelity to the Constitution and the King, assuming the fullness of their institutional paper like Crown successor. By Real Decree 284/2001, 16 of March, the Script and Standard of S.A.R. Prince de Asturias was created.
Prince Felipe attended his pre-school studies, basic education and multi-profile bachelor degree in the School Santa Maria of the Rosales, a modern center where he remained until 1984. After finishing his secondary studies, he graduated the last school year equivalent to the C.O.U. in the Lakefield College School, Canada, where stayed for a year.
Later, from September of 1985 to July of 1988, His Royal Highness carried out his military studies, successively, in the General Academy Militar de Zaragoza, in the Military Naval school of Marнn and in the Aviation school of San Javier, receiving in July of 1989 the offices of Lieutenant of Infantry, Lieutenant and Lieutenant of the Weapon of Aviation.
From October of 1988 to June of 1993 he studied in the Independent University of Madrid, also attending diverse subjects, including Economic Sciences with the intention of completing his formation in the economic field.
From September 1999 to June 2000 he carried out an advanced training courses in the field of Security and Defense.
Activities in Spain and abroad
From the conclusion of his academic studies in the United States, Don Felipe has taken care of institutional commitments every year. In his capacity of Crown Prince he presides over numerous officiations in Spain and participates in the most excellent events of the different sectors and scopes of Spain's public life. Since October 1995 he has initiated a series of official visits to the Independent Communities with the purpose of deepening in the knowledge of Spain and facilitating its approach to the rest of Spaniards.
In public and private hearings he is used to receive to a great number of people with the purpose of being informed about the national and international reality. When the King does not attend observances of the Armed Forces, Prince Felipe traditionally presides them over.
He has made numerous official trips to European Ibero-American countries, as well as to those of the Arab world, the Far East and the Australian Continent. He has shown a special interest by all those subjects related to the European Union, the Near East, North Africa and Ibero-America.
Also, eh has contributed greatly to the active promotion of the economic and commercial interests of Spain and the knowledge of Spanish language and culture abroad.
Usually he presides over the economic and commercial Exhibitions organized by Spain abroad (Expotecnia, Expoconsumo and Expohбbitat) and is specially interested in promoting the creation of Centers and Chairs that spread to the history and the present reality of Spain in the main foreign Universities.
In addition to its official activities, Don Felipe is President of Honor of several Associations and Foundations, like the Foundation Codespa, that finances specific activities of economic and social development in Hispano-America and other countries. Among all of them worth mentioning is the Foundation Prince of Asturias, presiding over annually the delivery of the Prizes that take their name, which enjoy great international prestige.
On the 1 of November, 2003, Their Majesties the Kings announced their married commitment with Doсa Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano.
