The chief of Bulgarian leading gas supplier was interrogated over links and contracts concluded with a Ukrainian company currently under local investigation.

Upon demand from Ukrainian Prosecutors' Office, Bulgarian authorities undertook last Thursday a large-scale paperwork checking in Sofia headquarters of Bulgaria's Overgas Inc.

Its executive chief Sasho Donchev had to spend over three hours answering questions in regard of deals signed with Ukraine's gas supplier Neftgas. The Ukrainian company is being investigated on money-laundering charges.

The checking move was carried out pursuant to a bilateral agreement of cooperation in the field of investigation.

According to Donchev, Overgas maintains close business relations with two top gas suppliers in Ukraine, namely Torgovy Dom Gaza Ukraini and Neft i Gaz Ukraini.

Overgas, half owned by Russia's Gazprom, is Bulgaria's major private gas supplier. It is currently implementing a gasification project worth of EUR 74 M, comprising the cities of Sofia, Varna and Rousse.

The company has announced a 2003 annual sales of nearly BGN 70,5 M and net profit of BGN 3,4 M hit for the 2004 first trimester alone.
