Bulgarian Business Stands Up for Corporate Social Responsibility

The national conference on "Corporate Social Responsibility in Action in Bulgaria" took place at the National Art Gallery under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Lidia Shuleva.
Among the companies that took part in the conference are Danone, Citibank, Radio FM + and Overgas.
Neil Buhne, UNDP Resident Representative for Bulgaria, awarded six companies for successful implementation of socially responsible practices in accordance with the principles of the Global Compact Initiative in Bulgaria - Radisson SAS, Macropharm, Balkanpharma, Vidima, Danone and Sofijska voda.
UNDP is impressed with the importance Bulgaria attaches to the private sector and with how rapid the progress has been in bringing the ideas of Corporate Social Responsibility to Bulgaria. All of this works for the good of Bulgaria, its society, economy and human development, Neil Buhne, UNDP Resident Representative for Bulgaria said.
What we do now is what the future holds for Bulgaria after 2007. This is the reason why we created the Business Ethics Standard and seek to motivate our members and the whole society to be responsible and loyal in their business, Maxim Behar, BBLF chairman said, referring to the country's scheduled EU accession in three years.
The Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum (BBLF) was established in 1998 by the Prince of Wales. It is associated with The Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum, initiated by HRH The Prince of Wales at an international business leadership meeting in Charleston, South Carolina, which he convened in February 1990.
