Bulgarian Whiz Lands Special Effects Oscar The Matrix superpunch scene is among Borshukov’s special effect contributions.

Born in a country plentiful of IT aces, young George Borshukov is the only Bulgarian with special effects Oscar Prize.

What is probably even more intriguing to movie maniacs - he has worked on The Matrix, the trilogy which marked a new era in the visual effects history.

When arriving in the USA 1992, Borshukov had no hunger for Hollywood fame. His ambitions at that time ran for successful graduation at the University in Worchester. Next, the young man moved to California to study at the University of Berkley.

His first major career opportunity came almost by chance. An amateur cartoon created by George was presented at a computer graphics festival, and immediately spotted by representatives of the Manex visual effects company.

Shortly after, the Bulgarian gets to work on the Vincent Ward blockbuster What Dreams May Come. It is not only the great performance by Robin Williams that makes the movie an immediate hit. The moving tale of life after death is also visually stunning, and critics are quick to point that is a unique example of movie magic.

It also becomes a magic tale in the life of George Borshukov - he soon gets the chance to squeeze the thrilling Oscar statuette, and his undeniable expertise and creativity become known to the entire filmmaking world...

...Including The Matrix producers. I was probably the dream project for any visual effects designer. But Borshukov was lucky to become part of the team. And his work again got both critics and fans talking for months. The famous battle between Neo and Agent Smith in The Matrix Reloaded has probably become one of the most replayed movie scenes ever! A true special effects classic, it will sure not be the last in Geroge Borshukov's astonishing career.
