Warsaw has categorically denied allegations that information leakage by Polish journalists might have triggered the attack against the Bulgarian President convoy in Iraq.
The visit of President Parvanov was kept secret out of security concerns but information about it was leaked by Polish journalists. The attack occurred as the convoy travelled between the camps of Bulgarian and Polish troops in the southern Iraqi city. No one was hurt in the assault.
Polish media can in no way be held responsible for the attack in Karbala, Polish officials said, reacting to hints at a link between the attack and the Polish media reports.
It was pointed out that the commandment of the multinational unit and Polish reporters in Iraq reported a shootout in Karbala that was not aimed at Parvanov. Reports also said that Polish media announced Parvanov's visit after his departure from Karbala.
