Nervous Feeling in Karbala

Politics | April 24, 2004, Saturday // 00:00

Situation in Karbala remains tense, according to a report of the Bulgarian Army.

The unit's Kilo base was under fire once again on Saturday morning. The mortar attack injured none of the soldiers.

Over the last three weeks, the Bulgarian peacekeepers have been patrolling the city around-the-clock. A senior sergeant died in an ambush on Friday.

On Saturday, Bulgaria called on US and Polish forces to back up the Bulgarian unit.

However, the soldiers are still feeling courageous, officials said. None of the troops declared willingness to give up the mission after the latest Bulgarian death.
