Bulgaria's FM: NATO is Responsibility

Politics | March 29, 2004, Monday // 00:00

Entering NATO is first of all a responsibility, Bulgaria's foreign minister said hours after the country's accession.

On Monday, Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg handed the accession documents to US State Secretary Colin Powell. Thus Bulgaria, together with six other ex-communist states, officially became a member of the Alliance. This is the organization's largest enlargement round.

The further enlargement now depends on our performance as NATO members, Solomon Passy told the Bulgarian National Television late on Monday evening.
