Germany's government is likely to support Bulgaria's efforts for turning into a regional centre for air traffic control.
The Minister for Transportation and Construction Manfred Stolpe has welcomed the idea during his meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Nikolay Vassilev over the weekened. He has suggested that German experts in air traffic control visit Bulgaria within a week.
The meeting took place in the framework of Minister Vassilev two-day visit to Germany.
The first trial stage of introducing a new system for air traffic control was wrapped up at the beginning of March. The new system was supplied by Italy's Alenia Marconi Systems. The third generation system meets all requirements of the The European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), Minister Vassilev assured.
Earlier this month reports emerged that Italy backed up the idea for making Bulgaria's Air Traffic Service Authority (ATSA) a regional centre in the Balkans due to its interest in the privatisation of Bulgaria Air.
