A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale hit the Indonesian province of Papua early on Friday, leaving at least 23 people dead. According to reports, as many as 600 might have been injured, and hundreds of homes were destroyed. A hospital, airport and mosques in the town of Nabire were also reported damaged.
