Bulgaria Faces No Bird Flu Danger So Far

There is no bird flu danger in Bulgaria yet accoding to Dimitur Belorechkov, chairman of the country's poultry-breeders union. He underlined that the reason behind his statement is that there are no poultry imports from Southeastern Asia to Bulgaria.

Belorechkov specified that despite the fact that all Thai farms with low technological and hygiene level are being destroyed, the virus could spread through the Chinese recipes as the meat is only lightly stewed.

Just a day earlier the World Health Organization (WHO) sent a letter to the Bulgarian Health Ministry underlining that there is a possibility that the bird flu might have transmitted from human-to-human. According to the UN's health agency two sisters in Vietnam have died after contracting the deadly bird flu virus -- possibly from their brother.

The bird flu could be transmitted to Bulgaria through the illegal imports of winged game, Boris Burov, a member of the Bulgarian union for animals' protection said. He also added that the border control has to be tightened.

The bird flu epidemics has killed 12 people so far and affected 10 countries in Asia.
