Radio Free Europe Ends Broadcasting in Bulgaria

Politics | December 3, 2003, Wednesday // 00:00

The US-financed Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty will stop broadcasting to Bulgaria and six more post-communist countries by the end of this year, spokeswoman Sonia Winter announced.

Broadcasting to Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia will end Dec. 31.

The changes are motivated by efforts to develop programming aimed at the troubled regions of the Middle East and Asia.

The decision has been taken under a directive from the White House and the Washington-based Broadcasting Board of Governors.
