2 Foreign Companies Start Independent Review on Bulgaria's Nuke

Experts of the Arcadis company from the Netherlands and Germany's Pleiades firm start preparations for a 3-month long independent evaluation of the socio-economic impact of the early closing of units 3,4 of Bulgaria's only nuclear plant at the town of Kozloduy.

The interdepartmental working group was appointed in May by the Bulgarian government.

Last week after the special peer review on the nuke it was announced that the recommendations of the European Union (EU) concerning its safety have all been met.

The closure of the two oldest units at the end of last year came after many years of concern over their safety, strong pressure from the European Union, protests from the nuclear lobby and opposition parties that the reactors are economically necessary.
