Famous Bulgarian actor Marius Kurkinski will take part in the World Theatre Day celebrations in Paris on March 27 next year. The decision was made by a jury of an international festival for one-man shows that took place near Macedonia's Lake Prespa.

In Paris Kurkinski will perform his one-man show The Dream, the Bulgarian National Television said.

The World Theatre Day has been celebrated on that date in theatres throughout the world since 1962. Different nations mark the event in various ways: by opening new theatres, publishing texts on theatre issues in the press, organising balls, symposia and round-table discussions, by televising taped theatre performances. Actors play on that particular day in many countries so that the box-office takings can be contributed to humanitarian projects, or theatre tickets are free of charge.

World legends Jean Cocteau, Arthur Miller, Peter Brook, Eugene Ionesco, Laurence Oliver, Richard Burton have contributed to the celebrations over the years. In the last decade some of the authors presented in Paris have come from the distant, very rich theatres communities of Eastern Europe, lesser known in the West.

Another success for Kurkinski this year was winning the prestigious Apolonia Award at the homonymous Art Festival at the Bulgarian town of Sozopol in September. The actor's one-man shows, including The Lady With The Puppy and The Lone Man, enjoyed large success in Bulgaria and got even people not so fond of theatre into the auditoriums.
