Former Bulgarian MP Gets Early Jail Release

Politics | August 28, 2003, Thursday // 00:00

Former Bulgarian MP Tsvetelin Kanchev was released from capital Sofia's Kremikovtzi prison on Thursday, before he had served his six-year sentence for blackmail and beating. Bulgarian court found Kanchev guilty on charges of abusing a businessman from the Bulgarian town of Zlatitsa. However, he was discharged ahead of term because of his "exemplary conduct" and his volunteer work at Sofia's Gerena stadium. Kanchev was the first Bulgarian MP to face a sentence behind bars for beating.
